2025/2026 Principal’s Message
Oki! Welcome to the 2025/2026 school year!
I am honoured and excited to step into the role of Principal at FP Walshe School this year.
I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional lands and territories of the Indigenous peoples who have cared for this land for countless generations. FP Walshe School is situated on Treaty 7 territory—the traditional and ancestral home of the Kainai, Piikani, Siksika, and Tsuut’ina Nations—and lies within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland, also known as the Battle River Territory. I extend gratitude to the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have lived on and cared for these lands throughout history. I also honour the Traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders, past and present, whose wisdom has helped preserve the beauty and sustainability of this land. This acknowledgement is offered as an act of reconciliation and respect.
Having lived in Southern Alberta with my wife and two children for the past 25 years, I feel deeply connected to this community. My career in education has spanned over three decades, with the last ten years in school administration. The past two years at FP Walshe School have been incredibly rewarding, and I am proud to now serve as Principal.
At FP Walshe School, our top priority is ensuring that every student, staff member, and stakeholder feels safe, supported, and a true sense of belonging. Our vision, mission, and motto guide us each day:
- Vision: A place to learn and belong
- Mission: Empower personal growth through meaningful relationships
- Motto: We Are Walshe
This year, we are excited to welcome approximately 400 students in Grades 6–12. Our school community is wonderfully diverse, representing many cultures, and we are committed to creating an environment that is safe, caring, respectful, and inclusive for all. We also continue to offer a wide range of programming, giving students meaningful choices to explore their passions and personalize their learning journey.
One of our key goals for 2025/2026 is to strengthen stakeholder engagement. FP Walshe School is fortunate to have a strong alumni network, active booster clubs, and a dedicated School Council. This year, we will be working to improve communication with all stakeholders so that we can share and celebrate the many successes happening within our school.
Our staff will also be encouraging students to set personal goals that challenge them to dream big, create action plans, and prepare for future success both inside and outside of the classroom.
